Studio Process

Seaweed Studios produces a unique line of products that incorporate hand built terracotta tile mosaics in a wide variety of formats. The driftwood used in the small garden benches is taken from the Maine coast. The antique and architectural pieces, which include everything from milking stools to carnival wagon doors, and the occasional outhouse seat, are from New England's salvage houses and primitive antique dealers. The barn siding is both found and bought wherever available.

While every piece that Seaweed Studios produces is one of a kind, they all have several things in common. They are useful, sturdy, primitive, colorful, whimsical and made entirely by hand using recycled or found materials.

Angus MacPhail, Seaweed's sole proprietor and artist, designs and builds each piece. Using MacPhail's somewhat dubious skills in a wide variety of disciplines, Seaweed Studios is able to create functional art that has a wide range of appeal. Products available include, but are not limited to, relief tiles, garden benches, tables, room dividers, doors, mosaic paintings, and flower pots. Custom mosaic installations are possible in any size on any flat surface.
